There are four parts to the UWL English Language Test: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The order below is not necessarily the order of sessions on the day.
Reading:
You will read 2 texts, followed by multiple-choice questions (1 hour).
Listening:
You will listen to 3 or 4 short texts. These texts will be a mixture of interview, discussion or lecture and will be followed by true/false or multiple-choice-type questions (45 minutes).
Speaking:
The speaking test will consist of a discussion and a short presentation (20 minutes).
Writing:
You will be asked to write a 250-word essay on a topic of general interest (1 hour).
When you arrive on campus, you will be met by International staff and given a visitor's pass for the day. We will check your ID and give you a brief tour of the exam rooms and the facilities, before the test commences. Please note that there are catering outlets on campus, where you will be able to purchase snacks and refreshments in the breaks.
Test papers, writing paper, etc. will be provided, but please bring some pens with you.
If you have any questions prior to the day of the test, please contact us by email at international@uwl.ac.uk or phone us on +44 (0) 20 8231 2440.
